Win The Queen's Knickers!

Win a fantastic childrens book to fill your childrens bookcase

In the spirit of getting into the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, we have a copy of 'The Queen's Knickers' by Nicholas Allen up for grabs!  To win, tell us what design your very own special pants/knickers would have (keep it clean please!)   The funniest will win a copy of The Queen's Knickers for you to share with your kids.

To help you find great children's books for your Tidy Books bookcase, we review The Queen's Knickers by Nicholas Allen.

Whether you call them pants, knickers, underpants or bloomers (!) there's not many pre-schoolers who don't find them funny, and The Queen's Knickers is a gentle, funny and affectionate book about wearing the right ones.   If your kids have ever taken time to select the right pants for the occasion then this book is for them.

The Queen's Knickers are a serious matter of state; some are encrusted with jewels, some come with an inbuilt parachute, new ones are created for special occasions, and some are just for everyday.  My four year old, a dog lover,  particularly liked the 'At Home' knickers, adorned with corgis.

A girl imagines what knickers the Queen would choose to wear on a visit to her school.  She can't decide, so settles, disappointed, for her everyday ones.  It's a reassuring book; that everyone is ordinary underneath and we tend to have the same sorts of worries.

There's an interview with author Nicholas Allen who says "I did have a twenty minute conversation with the Queen about the book but never learnt her opinion, as she is very guarded. Children send her decorated paper knickers and she always replies. She admitted, ‘the Ladies in Waiting find the book very amusing.’

The Queen's Knickers are in a fine tradition of children's books about pants and bottoms; 'Sing a Song of Bottoms', 'Aliens Love Underpants', and 'Who's in the Loo' are some of our particular favourites, and get laughs and re-reads.   This warm and friendly book is a great way to do some Jubilee and pants - related reading in one!  And you'll always wonder about the royal underwear after reading it!

We are delighted to be able to offer one lucky reader a copy of 'The Queen's Knickers' by Nicholas Allen.  Tell us what design your very own special pants/knickers would have (keep it clean please!) by Friday 8th June, and the winner will get a fabulous children's book.

The Queen's Knickers is written by Nicholas Allen, published by Red Fox Books, (first pub. 1993) this edition 2012

Find The Queen's Knickers on the high street in Waterstones, or your local independent bookshop (find your nearest) or even the library!

To be the lucky winner of this fantastic children's book just tell us one thing.....

It's got to be the 'Union Jack' on the front, to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee, with a tasteful picture of her favourite corgi on the back.
