WIN!! A wonderful addition to your children's bookcase with this Tidy Books book review and competition. We have a brilliant book from Buttonbag full of craft ideas to make with your kids.
Crafts are just for girls? Not so. Boys like making things too, but lots of the craft books out there are pink and twinkly, and frankly off-putting for boys, and lots of girls too. Boys like sewing, sticking and painting, but sometimes they and their parents, need a bit of extra encouragement. This is where 'Boycraft' by Sara Duchars and Sarah Marks of Buttonbag comes in with their crafts for kids, boys and girls.
The ideas for making things are themed, from creepy things -perfect for Halloween, to wooden craft ideas with opportunities for hammering and sawing, and from knitting and sewing to making model landscapes for your Lego minifigures. For boys unsure about the 'manliness' of making things, there are lots of suggestions to whet their appetites for getting out the paints, and cutting up bits of junk for modelling.
So, I tested this kids book on my 10 year old and 6 year old boys. They seized on the jumper monkeys, which are made from old jumpers or sweatshirts and they loved the idea of making the giant beanbags too. We settled on making the reindeer head first, giving the kitchen a stately home feel.
There's an abundance of great craft ideas that will appeal to boys and girls. Finger knitting creates some cool looking scarves and is a logical next step for loom band enthusiasts. My 6 year old is keen to try making a bug hotel from garden canes too. For some of the sewing crafts you will need a sewing machine, but there are tons of ideas that simply need glue, paint and card, to get their imaginations going.
Boycraft is published in the UK by Frances Lincoln. Buttonbag kindly provided the review copy and prize.
