Nicholas Allan is one of our favourite children's authors here at Tidy Books. We love the funny tones of his books, they appeal to young children and the young-at-heart reading to them!
Allan's previous Christmas children's book, Father Christmas Needs A Wee! Is one we've chortled our through many a time, and is a very popular book with children at Christmas time.
Father Christmas is back, and this time he has another problem, a love of sprouts! As you can imagine over indulging on the traditional festive vegetable has it's own set of, errrm, special problems. For someone who needs to not make a sound, perhaps Santa regrets stuffing himself with sprouts before he starts his present deliveries.
The book covers one Christmas night where Santa really does fly by the seat of his pants!
Do you love sprouts too? What's your favourite thing about Christmas? To be in with a chance of winning a copy of Father Christmas Comes Up Trumps! simply leave a comment telling us your favourite thing about Christmas. Good luck.
But before you give yourself a great chance of winning a copy of the book have a read of what we made of Father Christmas Comes Up Trumps!
WHAT THE PARENT THOUGHT
Toilet humour always appeals to us here. Especially when reading children's books. There's not many greater feelings than laughing your way through a book with your child. And that's certainly true of Nicholas Allan's previous book, Father Christmas Needs A Wee!
My son and I both love reading that one at this time of year, and eagerly awaited this new children's book. With my son nearing nine I did wonder if the humour maybe a little too young for him, but I really should have known better. A book about trumping is pretty much always going to appeal to children of all ages.
The rhyming text gives this book great flow, and it's funny to see how many different words can be used in reference to, errrm, bottom burps. Expanding vocabulary in a way children will be very keen to do so.
This books is full of laughter, fantastic illustrations and will leave you and your child smiling. Now we have two great Nicholas Allan books to chose from when we fancy a giggle around Christmas.
WHAT THE TEACHER THOUGHT
Helen is an early years foundation stage leader. She’s responsible for the education of over 150 three to six year-olds. Helen has over a decade’s experience in early years learning, and this is what she thinks of Father Christmas Comes Up Trumps by Nicholas Allan.
“Well, this is a fun book to say the least!”
"The illustrations are fantastic, and I think it is great that each scene is split across two pages, meaning each one can be tackled in turn with a child learning to read."
"The humour used in this book would motivate a lot of my reluctant readers, and at this time of year is absolutely perfect for them."
"Children can also guess the outcome, and what happens next in the story. With it following the traditions of Christmas, children could anticipate Father Christmas's next move and further predict how successful that may be."
"I'm not a great lover of sprouts - like a lot of children - but if they are good enough for Father Christmas, perhaps we could also use this book to encourage children to eat a little more healthily."
