Not many women make the leap from violin making to manufacturing for a global market, but Geraldine found an untapped niche in the market for her innovative front –facing children’s bookcase for the home, and in doing so struck a chord with parents who wanted their children to curl up with a book, just like they did as children.

Tidy Books

The Tidy Books' bookcase original design makes it easy for young children to see, choose and enjoy their books independently, and encouraging kids to love books. The Bookcase holds 85 kids books of all shapes and sizes, in a great looking, slimline shelf that minimizes loss of floor space – vital for saving space and sanity of the style conscious parent.

Geraldine Grandidier, who created the first Tidy Books Bookcase for her daughter in 2004, in her violin workshop in 2004, explains:

Ordinary children’s bookcases decorated or not, made no sense to me – books fall out.  Plus, how can you put such thin books of different sizes on an ordinary shelf? A box doesn’t work either as the kids can’t see the covers. I wanted something that worked well for kids and their books so I created the original Tidy Books Children’s Bookcase.”

Using her ‘can-do’ approach, careful research and inventive ways of doing business, Geraldine started Tidy Books with just $750 and no business experience, to create an international brand with a range of original kid’s storage products.

American parents can be reassured that Tidy Books is endorsed by the experts.  Tidy Books has won many awards for its original children’s designs including US Product of the Year Award from Creative Child Magazine in 2013, and won the ringing endorsement from US Mommy Bloggers.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business are the world’s top honors for female entrepreneurs, executives, employees and the organizations they run.  All individuals and organizations worldwide are eligible to submit nominations – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small. The 2013 awards received entries from 18 nations and territories. Geraldine Grandidier won in the Female Entrepreneur of the Year in Europe, the Middle East & Africa category.
