Why Tidy Books children’s book storage ideas work for kids

The design of the bookcase works for children who do judge a book by its cover – the front facing design allows children to see and choose their books easily and independently, promoting independent learning.   Kids like to take ownership of their things, including books.

Parents like the The Tidy Books Bookcase because it helps kids stay away from screens.   It also appeals to parents’ sense of nostalgia; they want their kids to be able to curl up with a book on a rainy afternoon, just like they did as children.

Geraldine Grandidier, Tidy Books CEO, who created the first Tidy Books Bookcase for her daughter in 2004, in her violin workshop explains:

Parents tell us that their Tidy Books bookcases have served as a great reminder to read with their children, and that their children are much more interested in their books as they can see them.  Ordinary children’s bookcases decorated or not, made no sense to me – books fall out.  I wanted something that worked well for kids and their books so I created the original Tidy Books Children’s Bookcase.”

Lydia Oliphant, a customer, told us what a difference the  Tidy Books Kid’s Bookcase had made to her son:

“Tidy books have perfectly filled the gap between cheap-lasts-a-year children’s furniture and the expensive-but-they’ll-use-it-at-uni bookcases. My son has gone from ignoring the books stacked on a low shelf to enjoying books he’d pushed away before, simply as he’s now empowered by independently making his own choice. The 3D letters on the front of the shelves have encouraged alphabet practising, including when he’s in his room alone (& I’m peeking around the door). I should add that my son has Autism & is currently non-verbal so this increased interest in language & communication is particularly fabulous for us. Thanks Tidybooks ”
